Review | OOTD Beauty Hydrating Serum Sheet Masks Starter Kit [AD]

In this post, I will share my experience with using the OOTD Hydrating Serum Sheet Masks Starter Kit, which was kindly sent to me by OOTD Beauty in exchange for an honest review.

They chose 2 of their popular vegan products to send me; I wrote about the Dark Spot Vitamin C Serum in my previous post, and in this post, I will focus my review on the Hydrating Serum Sheet Masks Starter Kit.

Hydrating Serum Sheet Masks Starter Kit (5pcs)

Hydrating serum sheet mask assorted pack with 5 different types of sheet masks mixed in one pack. All the masks are formulated with key active ingredients with different functions, all in one variety pack perfect for everyday skincare routine.

[5 Sheets]
Collagen Supreme Mask (1pc) 1 Sheet #Hydrating, firming, soothing

Ceramide Care Mask (1pc) #Brightening, moisturizing, smoothing
Triple Hyaluron Serum Glowing Mask (1pc) #Glowing, moisturizing, brightening
Retinol Serum Plumping Mask (1pc) #Rejuvenating, brightening, moisturizing

How to use:
After cleansing your face, apply skin toner. Take sheet mask out of the package and adhere it evenly over your face avoiding eyes and mouth area. Remove it after 15minutes. Gently pat any remaining product into the skin.

Quantity & Packaging

The starter kit contains 5 different sheet masks individually packaged and housed in an outer box. Each sheet mask has 25g of serum.

Sheet Size, Material & Texture

The sheet mask is made of super soft vegan lyocell bamboo material to minimise skin irritation and adhere well to the skin. The material also holds all of the essence well so that it is completely drenched but doesn’t drip off unless you squeeze it. For my face, the sheet mask was on the larger side and needed to be folded at the edges but the eye and mouth cut-outs were still in the perfect position to sit comfortably.

Sheet Serum Appearance & Texture

All 5 of the sheet masks have the same clear viscous serum texture that feels plush and slippery but not sticky or tacky. I was going to show texture photos of each one but they ended up looking exactly the same so I’m just showing one for you to see how juicy and hydrating the serum looks.

OOTD Retinol Serum Plumping Mask

Collagen Supreme Mask

#Hydrating #Firming #Soothing
A classic mask with a mixture of active ingredients of collagen, hyaluronic Acid, and witch-hazel for overall skin care. Hyaluronic acid provides intensive hydration to your skin, while Collagen nourishes your skin for more youthful-looking skin.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Allantoin, Fragrance, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Soluble Collagen, Sodium Hyaluronate, AteloCollagen

Scent: Contains artificial fragrance that smells like fruity grape perfume. It smells delicious but it’s quite strong and might be too much for those who prefer unscented or lightly scented products.

My Experience:

The Collagen Supreme Mask was comfortable and refreshing on my skin for the full 15 minutes and was still wet with essence when it was time to take it off. When I took the mask off I noticed a layer of essence sitting on my skin that I had to massage in and it felt slightly more slippy and smooth compared to the others, taking longer to absorb it was still lightweight and refreshing. My skin looked vibrant and fully hydrated with a plump bounce after using it.

Cica Soothing Mask

#Nourishing #Rejuvenating #Calming
An advanced nourishing and rejuvenating sheet mask for troubled skin that helps soothe and rejuvenate with Cica, Hyaluronic Acid, and Chamomile. Visibly firms the skin to appear luminous, rejuvenated, and healthier looking.

Ingredients: Water(Aqua), Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Allantoin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Extract, Melissa Officinalis Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Citratus Extract, Aspalathus Linearis Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hyaluronic Acid

Scent: This is the only one that does not contain artificial fragrance, but it does have many naturally fragrant components giving it a fresh herby minty rosemary scent.

My Experience:

As soon as I applied the Cica Soothing Mask it felt incredibly cooling and tingly on my skin. I didn’t feel the soothing effects I usually do with Cica though and that’s understandable as it’s lower down in the ingredients lists with more cooling ingredients such as rosemary leaf and peppermint extract before it. I quite enjoyed the sensation in the hot weather but wasn’t sure if I could keep it on for the full duration as the tingle amplified the more it was on my skin. Luckily I felt fine and kept it on for 15 minutes after which the sheet was still drenched in serum which I’m happy about because I don’t like it when the sheet dries out. After taking the mask off I noticed the serum remaining on my skin was really lightweight and absorbed quickly, I was then, left with clear bright without any redness or irritation from the tingling. Although on this occasion I didn’t experience redness or irritation, it is something I’d be wary about with continued use because my skin has been sensitive to lavender and rosemary in the past.

Ceramide Care Mask

#Brightening #Moisturizing #Smoothing
An intensely brightening and moisturizing sheet mask for uneven skin that helps support the skin barrier with ceramide, vitamin C, and peptide complex. Visibly brightens, moisturizes, and refines the look of skin.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Allantoin, Fragrance, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Copper Tripeptide-1, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Oligopeptide-32, Oligopeptide-29, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Ascorbic Acid, Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Ceramide AS, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP

Scent: Contains artificial fragrance but it is a very light fresh scent that isn’t overpowering. Possibly the lightest scented of them all.

My Experience:

The Ceramide Care Mask was really comfortable to keep on my face for 15 minutes and felt nicely moisturizing and hydrating. The mask stayed soaking wet throughout and once I took it off, the remaining essence had a similar slightly amplified smooth slip as the Collagen one which also contains ceramides so that could be why. My skin was left with a beautiful nourished glow. It turned out to be one of my favourites.

Triple Hyaluron Serum Glowing Mask

#Glowing #Rejuvenating #Moisturizing
An intensely illuminating and moisturizing sheet mask for a youthful skin glow. Formulated with Triple Hyaluronic Acid, Caffeine and Vitamin C complex to brighten and help the skin to appear luminous and healthy.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Allantoin, Fragrance, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Caffeine, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Potassium Hyaluronate

Scent: This one contains artificial fragrance that to me smells like a light lavender floral perfume.

My Experience:

So all of the sheet masks in this kit are drenched in essence but I somehow found the Triple Hyaluron Serum Glowing Mask to be even more extra juicy. Although I wasn’t fond of the scent, I kept it on my face for the full 15 mins and then took the still soaked sheet off, revealing a hydrated bouncy plump, vibrant, glowing, healthy complexion. I noticed a temporary difference around my area too as I was looking more awake and not so dull. If I could just ignore the floral perfumed scent, this is another favourite based on the effects.

Retinol Serum Plumping Mask

#Plumping #Brightening #Moisturizing
An intensely rejuvenating sheet mask to help fight the look of wrinkles with Retinol, Ceramide, and Hyaluronate complex. Visibly brightens, moisturizes, and plumps the look of skin.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Methylpropanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Retinyl Palmitate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Arachis Hypogaea (Peanut) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Tocopherol, Ceramide NP, Ceramide NS, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Ceramide AS, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP

Scent: This contains artificial fragrance that is a classic mature fresh and light perfume scent.

My Experience:

The Retinol Serum Plumping Mask had the same juicy texture, however, I couldn’t keep it on my skin for 15 minutes as I started to develop slight irritation in the form of itching and a heated tingle. I didn’t experience any redness from the irritation but the itching did last for several hours to the point where my forehead and cheeks were unbearably itchy. I thought it might be because of dryness but it didn’t subside after applying moisturising cream. I’ve used much higher-strength retinol before and didn’t experience this sensation so I thought it had to be something else. I ended up with allergy symptoms, sneezing and blowing my itchy runny nose all night so I re-read the ingredients to find Peanut Oil – I’m luckily only mildly allergic to peanuts but significant enough to cause discomfort, however refined peanut oil doesn’t contain the allergy causing protein that peanuts do so I’m still unsure of what bought it on. The next morning I woke up with random little white heads wherever my skin was itchy. For obvious reasons, this was my least favourite, however, if your skin is resilient and you’re not allergic to any of the ingredients it might work out better for you and you can then get the long-term benefits of Retinyl Palmitate with regular use.

Overall Thoughts

The OOTD Beauty Hydrating Serum Sheet Masks Starter Kit is a great way of trying out all five of the sheet masks the brand has to offer, to see which ones you like and which suit your skin’s needs best.

You’d have to use a particular one quite regularly to see each individual benefit of the different sheet masks otherwise they give off a pretty similar effect with one-off use in my opinion. What I mean by this is that with only using these masks one time the main thing I saw straight away is hydration, brightness, vibrancy and plumpness and that’s a key theme in all 5 of the masks; the Triple Hyaluron mask has those same effects amplified, and the Cica Soothing Mask gives an additional instant cooling feel, however, with an ingredient like Retinol for example you’re not going to get immediate results.

When I look at the key ingredients they all look really good to me, and I’ll just run through a bit about them:

Hyaluronic Acid: Known for its ability to reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles, hyaluronic acid retains moisture, infusing all layers of the skin with rejuvenating hydration. This leads to smoother, plumper skin that looks and feels revitalized. It effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by locking in moisture across all layers of the skin, restoring a youthful and rejuvenated complexion. (Featured in Collagen Supreme Mask, Cica Soothing Mask, Triple Hyaluron Serum Glowing Mask, and Retinol Serum Plumping Mask)

Witch Hazel: Widely recognized for its anti-inflammatory properties, witch hazel eases inflammation and soothes sensitive skin. It also helps to reduce skin redness and provides relief for irritated and sensitive skin, promoting a calm and balanced complexion. (Featured in Collagen Supreme Mask)

Collagen: As a crucial protein, collagen supports skin elasticity and hydration, resulting in a more youthful and vibrant appearance. It helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin, improving the overall firmness and elasticity of your skin. (Featured in Collagen Supreme Mask)

Ceramide: Essential for a healthy skin barrier, ceramides are lipids that make up a significant portion of the skin’s composition. They play a vital role in maintaining skin integrity, protecting against environmental stressors, and promoting overall skin structure. With ceramide support, your skin barrier remains strong, reducing the risk of skin disorders and dysfunction. (Featured in Ceramide Care Mask and Retinol Serum Plumping Mask)

Vitamin C: Recognized as a potent antioxidant, vitamin C effectively neutralizes free radicals and protects the skin from damage caused by sun exposure. This essential vitamin also aids in reducing pigmentation, evening out skin tone, and enhancing overall brightness for a more luminous complexion. Harness the power of vitamin C to promote a brighter and more youthful-looking complexion. (Featured in Triple Hyaluron Serum Glowing Mask, and Ceramide Care Mask)

Cica (Centella Asiatica): This remarkable ingredient repairs and calms sensitive skin, making it a go-to solution for soothing irritated skin and reducing redness. It also aids in wound healing, reverses signs of ageing such as pigmentation, and boosts skin hydration for a plumper and more youthful appearance. (Featured in Cica Soothing Mask)

Chamomile: With its potent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties, chamomile provides multiple benefits for the skin. It neutralizes free radicals, reduces skin irritations, and calms sensitive skin, making it a perfect choice for all skin types. Its hypoallergenic nature makes it particularly beneficial for sensitive skin, soothing and providing a sense of comfort. (Featured in Cica Soothing Mask)

Retinol: Derived from vitamin A, retinol neutralizes free radicals and stimulates the production of elastin and collagen. This “plumping” effect helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores, giving you smoother and more youthful-looking skin. (Featured in Retinol Serum Plumping Mask)

Caffeine: Say goodbye to tired and dull-looking skin with the energizing effects of caffeine. It revitalizes and tightens the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles, and puffiness. Experience the firming and brightening benefits for a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. (Featured in Triple Hyaluron Serum Glowing Mask)

With that information, you can see exactly why I like those ingredients in my skincare and why these sheet masks perform so well. However, there is one additional ingredient that bothers me, if you are a regular on my blog, you know I don’t like artificial fragrance in my facial skincare and unfortunately 4 out of 5 of these sheet masks contain strong artificial scents, while 1 contains naturally fragrant botanical oils and extracts. Scent aside, the actual sheet mask performance is great so I really wish they make unscented versions some day.

One of the main reasons I’d still recommend trying these sheet masks, especially if you do enjoy fragrance in skincare, is that they are really fantastic for intense hydration and what’s even better is that they give a long-lasting deep nourishing feel that doesn’t feel sticky, or greasy, and on the opposite end, they also don’t end up dehydrating you after a while; this is particularly great for those of us with combination skin but I can see all skin types enjoying them too.
