Review | I’m From Rice Toner [AD]

I’ve been intrigued by this toner for some time now, because rice water is something my mum would make me apply to my skin and hair since I was young, so when I saw this toner that is specifically formulated for skincare use I knew I had to give it a try.

In February, Wishtrend kindly gifted me the I’m From Rice Toner in exchange for an honest review, and I was very excited to use it as soon as it arrived. In today’s post I’ll first share some general information about the rice toner and then talk about my personal experience with it so far.

I'm From Rice Toner

Quantity & Packaging

150ml in a clear hard plastic bottle with an aesthetically pleasing neutral beige and cream coloured label and lid. When you unscrew the lid there is a small hole that releases single drops of toner as you gently shake the bottle; I like this as it prevents spillage and wastage.

Scent

This toner does not contain any artificial fragrance and does not have any scent at all.

Appearance & Texture

Through the bottle, you can see that the toner is a milky white colour. When you hold the bottle up to the sun or in certain lightings, you can see that the toner is separated in two parts that need to be mixed together by shaking the bottle before dispensing the product to use on the skin. You can notice this as there is a slight difference in colour and consistency of the water and emulsion layers. The texture is quite lightweight but has a smooth silky feeling to it.

My Experience

As I mentioned in the beginning of this post, using rice water on my skin isn’t a new concept for me but as rice extract is not the only ingredient in this toner it is very different to splashing your own rice water on your face. Rather than giving just a smooth refined matte finish this provides more of a silky smooth moisturised semi-matte finish to the skin thanks to the addition of emulsion components, and it brightens the skin with not only rice extract but also niacinamide. Niacinamide, as you may know, is also good for sebum control and is an ingredient I love to see in products, however I have many products with niacinamide in them, so I make sure not to use them in the same routine as too much could cause irritation.

What I love the most about the I’m From Rice Toner is that with just a single layer it provides lightweight moisture to the skin without clogging pores or causing breakouts. With continued use over 2 months I’ve noticed that it has indeed given my complexion a brightened appearance as well as a texture smoothing effect.

As I’ve been testing this toner out mostly during cold weather days when my combination skin is slightly drier, my go to method of using this toner has been to apply 1 layer and follow up with the I’m From Rice Cream for deeper nourishment. We’ve also had a few momentary spots of warm weather recently in the UK and I found that on those days I was able to get away with using this in place of a cream by applying 2-3 layers after a hydrating toner and then going about my business as it doesn’t feel heavy but gives adequate moisture to my combination skin. In this case the reason for why I would use a different hydrating toner first is because although the rice toner gives good nourishment and moisturisation, it isn’t particularly hydrating, and as I have dehydrated skin all year around I need an additional hydrating toner to combat that, especially on the days when I don’t plan on using a cream after. I’ll definitely continue using the I’m From Rice Toner this way in the upcoming hot summer months.

I’ve really enjoyed using the I’m From Rice Toner, it’s yet another product by the brand ‘I’m From’ that lives up to the hype, and I would highly recommend it for all skin types to try.
