Quantity & Packaging

180ml in a see-through bottle with a silver screw-on lid. When you unscrew the lid, there’s a plastic plug with a small hole in it to dispense an adequate amount of product without wastage/ spillage. It has quite a simple clean aesthetic that I like. I also got the Animal Friends Addition packaging which was created to show Rovectin’s support of cruelty-free skincare. Rovectin created 5 animal characters depicting common animals that are usually tested on, hoping all animals will be free one day. Becky a 2-year-old sheep, Dixie a 3-year-old monkey, Tommy a 1-year-old bunny, Robin a 3-year-old Beagle dong, and Nero a 3-year-old Cheese Tabby cat. On the packaging, you can see whichever animal you randomly get having fun with a Rovectin square, which Rovectin state represents an essential skin barrier for healthy skin and transparent communication with consumers. I got Robin the cute lil’ Doggo.

My Experience

The Rovectin Activating Treatment Lotion is a toner essence that is raved about a lot by one of my favourite skincare YouTubers ‘EuniUnni’ so I was always curious to try it. Looking at the ingredients list it definitely sounds great for hydrating, strengthening and brightening the skin, and I can confirm it really does deliver these 3 things for me, making my skin look healthier, plump and less dull.

My husband and I have both used this for the past few months. I used it on and off in different ways and he used it every day in a standard way. We both have different skin types and naturally different experiences with using this product. I’ll first write about my experience with it and then share how it was for him.

The first time I used it, I took about 5 drops into my palm, applied it and then realised 5 drops was way way way too much for my skin to handle at once, as it started lathering up, took a long time to absorb and left a very tacky residue on the surface of my skin.

I knew from then on I would need to use a lot less but before doing so, I decided on the next occasion to do a little cotton round experiment. As it has a thick gloopy consistency it’s definitely one to use with hands only, but for experiment’s sake, on one occasion I attempted to dispense it onto a cotton round which as expected didn’t work out so well and I ended up wasting a bunch product as the cotton round felt heavy and saturated but strangely dry as it didn’t transfer any product to my skin. It was a one-time thing but I’ll never do it again with this kind of consistency.

Moving forward, I decided to just use 1 drop, dispensing it into my palms, gliding it easily over my entire face and then patting it in for better absorption, which gave my skin the perfect amount of hydration, however, it did still leave a tacky residue until it fully absorbed. Any more than one drop would be too much for me. I apply an emollient toner and cream on top to cut the tacky feeling, in particular, a light layer of the I’m From Rice Toner followed by any balanced cream works well for me straight after using the Rovectin Activating Treatment Lotion. Another way is to mix the 1 drop with a basic nourishing cream and apply it straight like that to add the hydrating, brightening and repairing benefits that the Rovectin Activating Treatment Lotion has to the nourishing effect of the cream. After the whole routine, I find my skin is a lot more plump compared to when I don’t incorporate the Rovectin Treatment Lotion with the same products, so it goes to show the humectants are really doing their thing quenching my skin’s thirst.

For me, it makes it much easier to use this humectant rich formula when balanced with more emollient products, but I still don’t find myself reaching for it that often over my more lightweight toner essences – a similar but better textured one being my holy grail Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner.

My husband on the other hand adores the Rovectin Activating Treatment Lotion, and says it’s one of the best toner essences we’ve had in a while. He said it is comparable to Hado Labo Gokyujun Premium Lotion that he’s used in the past and missed dearly until this Rovectin one came into his life. He says the Rovectin Activating Treatment Lotion hydrates his skin deeply, doesn’t leave a tacky residue with 1-2 drops, and calms the redness down on his cheeks a bit too. For reference, he has a normal-dry skin type with redness on his cheeks, whereas I have combination skin that is easily clogged, acne-prone and very dehydrated.

I’d recommend the Rovectin Activating Treatment Lotion to anyone with dry, dehydrated skin, but also combination skin that leans on the normal to dry side too. Remember to splash or mist your face with water after for the hyaluronic acid to draw into the skin otherwise it might not work and you’ll incorrectly think it’s not suitable for dry dehydrated skin. People with oily skin types and combination skin that leans on the oilier side might not like the tackiness this leaves behind on the skin, that being said hyaluronic acid is still useful so you can counter the tackiness the way I did by applying something emollient over it.
