Review | Sioris My First Essener

In today’s post I will be sharing my thoughts on the Sioris My First Essener that I got in the Day 25 box of the Beauty & Seoul 2021 Advent Calendar.

About The Product

ESSENER = Essence + Toner. An innovative concept from Sioris to help both prep and moisturise the skin after cleansing. The Essener is formulated with an impressive list of 14 carefully-selected ingredients such as Korean Mugwort Leaf Extracts and Damask Rose Flower Water to help nourish and revitalise tired skin. Polyglutamic Acid derived from fermented soybeans is also included for its moisturising properties.

How to use: Apply a moderate amount of the Essener evenly to the skin after cleansing. Gently pat in to the skin to aid absorption.

*as per Beauty & Seoul

Ingredients

*Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Water, *Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, *Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Betaine, Polyglutamic Acid, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Sclerotium Gum, Citric Acid [* Organic Certified Ingredients]

Quantity & Packaging: I have a 20ml sample size in a clear hard plastic bottle with a cream coloured screw on cap, but the full size is 100ml and comes in a glass bottle. Sioris is always looking for sustainable packaging ideas and this product has a wash off adhesive label that dissolves in water and can easily be removed from the bottle for recycling. As the product at first is a bit jelly-like it doesn’t drip out when you turn the bottle upside down and it is also a bit difficult to tap it out of the tiny hole in the stopper, you can see in the picture below that it taps out into little dots of jelly that melt down (the pic is about 5 taps), however I found it much easier to just remove the stopper and pour out the product.

Appearance & Texture: An amber coloured liquid that seems jelly like but melts down to a thin yet viscous consistency. When the product settles it all comes together forming a jelly so as you can see in the picture below, when you tip the bottle upside down it keeps its form for a while before plopping down all together whole, however once you shake it a bit the liquid loosens up and starts to move freely and less congealed in the bottle.

Scent: Natural fresh scent, possibly green tea extract because other green tea products smell similar. No artificial fragrance.

My Experience

I mentioned in my unboxing post that I had heard good things about the Sioris My First Essener, and was intrigued not only by it’s name but also the ingredients list as it contains Green Tea, Mugwort, Hyaluronic Acid and Polyglutamic Acid, which together sound great for balancing and hydrating the skin, possibly even soothing and repairing.

The first thing I was surprised about was the slight gelatinous consistency of the product which instantly melts down when applying it to the skin. I was expecting it to just be a lightweight slightly viscous essence type toner but instead it went from thick to thin and slippery to leaving a slightly sticky residue until fully absorbed. The residue stays longer if I try to apply more layers so I found that a little goes a long way because of this, and just sticking to one layer was better for me.

Texture and how it sits on my skin is important to me and as I have these ingredients in other products with a more lightweight feel/ no residue left behind, I’d rather layer those than risk the tackiness with this one.

The Sioris My First Essener wasn’t the most thirst-quenching or refreshing essence toner for my skin and seemed to do more for balancing my skin’s oil production over anything else. It actually reminded me a lot of the Isntree Green Tea Toner, same smell and colour with similar effects on my skin, however, I do prefer the Isntree one for feeling more lightweight and not sticky.

If you don’t mind a slight tackiness to the skin, you might want to try the well-rounded Sioris My First Essener and reap the benefits of the key ingredients.
