Review | Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream [AD]

In today’s post I will be sharing my review of the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream that was kindly gifted to me by Wishtrend in exchange for an honest review. This is in fact my second jar of this cream as I had purchased it myself a few years ago and wrote a review at that time. My reason for requesting this cream from Wishtrend to try again is because I recall loving it to the point of labelling it holy grail status, however as I have tried so many other creams since it finished, I wanted to come back to it and see if the product is as I remember it to be and if my initial opinion remains the same. I’ll first share some general information about the cream and then talk about how it was for my combination/ acne-prone skin.

Quantity & Packaging

30ml in a small black glass jar, with a spatula for decanting the cream, and a white plastic hygiene cover that helps to prevent dust from getting to the cream and also aids in avoiding accidental spillage. It also comes in a 60ml squeezable tube version that I personally would prefer for the size, hygiene factor and packaging type.

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

Scent

There is no artificial or natural fragrance, which is great for me as my skin can be sensitive to fragrances.

Appearance & Texture

A medium-weight blue coloured cream that isn’t too light or too thick. It has a smooth pillow-like bounce whilst applying and absorbs well into the skin without leaving a tacky residue. If you do like a slight tacky finish you can build it up by applying more. The blue colour is due to the ingredient, Guaiazulene, which is a natural component extracted from chamomile oil. Once the cream has been massaged in, the blue colour is no longer visible.

My Experience

As I mentioned earlier, this is my second jar of the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream so I already had an idea of how the product is on my skin but wanted to see if my opinion stays the same after using it again a few years later. Having used 2 jars of this now, I have a better understanding of this cream and I am now certain that this is among the moisturising creams that I will always adore, however I did notice a few positive differences from when I used it a few years ago.

I use this as an all over the face moisturiser most of the time and only use it to sooth targeted areas occasionally for example, on mild sunburn and over a horrible graze I got on my arm after falling in the rain. The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream was indeed one of the products that helped to soothe these areas and calm down heat and inflammation that was present. Other than that it’s fantastic as a daily use all over face moisturiser, firstly because it helps calm down my breakouts and secondly because it gives my skin a balanced amount of hydration and nourishment without clogging my pores. My skin always looks healthy and plump after using this cream.

In my first review of this product I had written that the cream might not be enough as an all over moisturiser for those with very dry skin, however I noticed this time around that the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming cream is buildable resulting in a different finish depending on how much you apply. I noticed this because I have combination and dehydrated skin that sometimes leans towards the oilier side and sometimes more on the dry side. I also have quite dry arms and legs that need a lot of nourishment and although I can’t use this on my arms and legs often without it finishing quickly, I did use it a few times on some particularly flaky areas, and also noticed a huge difference to the dryness around my healing graze.

On these extremely dry and dehydrated areas, I apply a thicker layer of the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream and it does wonders in moisturising and softening the skin. On my face however, on days when my skin is on the drier or more dehydrated side, I apply 2-3 thin layers building it up as needed and it helps keep my face looking nourished all day. Whereas on days when my skin is on the oilier side I apply a single thin layer and it sinks in beautifully without any greasy or tacky residue lingering behind.

This cream is a must have or at least a must try. For me it will forever be on my repurchase list as I love it’s versatility and the results it gives me.

    1. haha XD I assumed they meant keep the small amount thick on the skin rather than massaging it in completely? which is what I did over my graze but on the face as a regular moisturiser I can see how their instruction can sound a bit funny.
