Review | I’m From Mugwort Essence [AD]

Everyday for the past few weeks, I have been using the I’m From Mugwort Essence, that was kindly gifted to me by Wishtrend in exchange for an honest review.

I’ll first share some general information about the mugwort essence and then talk about my personal experience with it so far.

This is a soothing essence made with the single ingredient of Mugwort Extract. The refreshing fluid formula adheres and absorbs into the skin to soothe sensitive skin and recharge moisture from within. *(as described on the Wishtrend website)

How to use:

Ingredients

Artemisia Princeps Extract 100%

According to Wishtrend, although the product lists 100% Artemisia Princips Extract as the only ingredient, it actually also includes distilled water and preservatives before and during the extraction process of the extract, the end result after extraction is the 100% Artemisia Princips Extract, but because of the preservatives used prior to extraction the product is able to last a long time without going bad. You can watch Wishtrend’s YouTube video explaining this via the following link: Why is there just one ingredient under the label?

Quantity & Packaging

160ml in a glass bottle with a very aesthetically pleasing neutral olive green lid and label. When you open the lid there is a small white plastic plug that needs to be pulled out to access the product. The small hole releases a single drop of essence at a time which I like as it prevents spillage and wastage.

Scent

This has a very subtle natural herbal medicine scent which disappears once the essence has absorbed. It is the natural scent of the ingredient as they haven’t added any artificial fragrance.

Appearance & Texture

The essence looks like a pale amber liquid, and the texture is quite lightweight but has a slippery viscosity which the packaging states is the natural texture.

My Experience

Mugwort is often compared to tea-tree as it is known to have antibacterial, antifungal and skin-healing properties, but unlike tea-tree mugwort is gentle and also has calming and soothing properties; it even smells better than tea-tree and doesn’t cause irritation or strip the skin. I have acne-prone skin so I like to use products that will soothe my skin and reduce the inflamed redness of the pimples. When using the I’m From Mugwort Essence I noticed that it is indeed amazing for soothing my skin and calming down any redness but it’s not as refreshing or hydrating as I had imagined.

As it’s currently winter, the mugwort essence alone isn’t enough for hydrating or moisturising the skin but as that isn’t the intended purpose of this essence anyway I don’t mind it at all and just follow up with another hydrating serum and/or cream after. Although it’s not as refreshing as I had imagined, the intended purpose of this essence is for calming and soothing and I get exactly that so it’s still a winner in my eyes.

It feels light yet slippery on the skin when only using a few drops but I like to apply 2 layers of this which initially has a slight stickiness as it takes a moment to absorb but once it completely absorbs, it leaves a skin-like finish with no stickiness at all, just soft supple skin. I think this will be perfect in the summer when my skin isn’t as dehydrated, as I prefer such lightweight textures that time of year.

I’ve also been using the I’m From Mugwort Mask which I absolutely adore but as it’s a mask it’s recommended to use just once a week, so I’m glad I also have the I’m From Mugwort Essence to use daily. They’re definitely a powerhouse when used together for soothing and healing my skin whenever I breakout, and on regular non breakout days the essence alone is still a wonderful product that I enjoy using.

I would highly recommend the I’m From Mugwort Essence to all skin types and especially anyone prone to redness and/or breakouts, also people living in hot climates, this could be a great option for you to try to help cool and soothe your skin.
