Review | AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack [AD]

In today’s post I will be sharing my experience of using the AXIS-Y Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack, that was gifted to me by AXIS-Y in exchange for an honest review.

They sent me the Mugwort Pore Clarifying Wash Off Pack along with their Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum and Cera-Heart My Type Duo Cream, after I explained my skin type and concerns which are: combination acne prone skin that is easily clogged but also dehydrated, and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation marks from past pimples.

Before I write about my experience with the mask, I’ll first explain a bit about the brands concept and their current skincare line.

AXIS-Y is a climate inspired skincare company with products that take into account how our skin is directly affected by our environment, the climate, temperature, humidity and other external stressors, and how we should care for it accordingly.

AXIS-Y have created their 6+1+1 Advanced Formula skincare line (611), for people with oily, acne-prone skin living in humid climates. Each product in the line is carefully formulated with 6 natural ingredients + 1 core functional ingredient + 1 special patented skincare technology, which work together to address a particular skin concern.

Although I’m not currently living in a humid climate, this line is still well suited for my combination acne-prone skin.

Quantity & Packaging

100ml in a green plastic jar with white lid. When you unscrew the lid there’s a thin white plastic cover over the mask with a small spatula resting on it. The extra plastic cover can be a bit annoying as its quite flimsy and tends to dip into the mask and get messy. The spatula is too small for applying the mask but it’s fine for taking out as much as you need and then using fingers to apply it.

Scent

Although it doesn’t contain artificial fragrance, it does have quite a strong overpowering scent. As it contains 61% mugwort extract I expected it to smell earthy like mugwort but to me it actually smells heavily of rosemary oil.

Appearance & Texture

I would describe the colour as a sage green with brown specs. The texture is like a creamy clay with adzuki bean pieces within it and feels quite smooth not rough.

My Experience

Although they say you can use this mask pack 2-3 times a week, I ended up choosing to use it just once a week as a general clay mask for a little pamper session and so far I think it’s quite a decent mask pack for occasional use.

I like that the mask applies quite smoothly over the face and the adzuki bean granules aren’t rough but just give a very gentle exfoliation when washing the mask off. While the mask is on my face it feels refreshing with a slight tingling sensation. I expected it to be very soothing as it contains 61% mugwort extract but I don’t really get a soothing effect from it. What I do get however is clearer pores and smoother feeling skin once I wash it off, which is expected from a clay mask. It does take quite a long time to wash the mask off even with a very thin layer, so I like using a clean wash cloth to help remove the mask quicker.

The instructions say to leave the clay mask on for 15 mins until it dries but I always make sure not to let it completely set so that the clay can absorb excess sebum gently without causing dehydration and tightness. You can feel the mask getting dry after about 10 mins but majority stays slightly moist if you apply a thick even layer. I found that if I apply a very thin layer it hardens a lot quicker and gets a little itchy, tight and uncomfortable, so I prefer applying a thicker layer and not allowing it to fully dry.

I would say this mask pack is definitely for people with oily skin types, so if that’s you and you’re not sensitive to strong scented products you might want to give this a try to reduce the excess oil. Combination skin types can also benefit from this mask by only targeting oily clogged areas rather than all over the face.
